Karate is a striking martial art originally from Okinawa. It is one of the most well know martial arts in the world and with competition in the Olympics using both Kata and Kumite styles. There are three areas of Shotokan Karate, Khion (basics), Kata (forms or patterns of moves) and Kumite (sparring).
Techniques in Khion and Kata use long and deep stances to help strengthen your legs to provide stability and enable powerful movements. Whereas techniques used in kumite give you great sense of distancing and timing, as well as a verity of punches and kicks.
A highly popular striking sport using punches and clever tactics to beat an opponent. Boxing is a fantastic workout and will develop your endurance and mental toughness. Popular around the world with millions of viewers across many fights, also an Olympic sport.
A boxing session will include learning footwork, evasion tactics, technical training, pad hitting, defence and boxing specific conditioning. A great workout regardless of your physical ability or understanding of the sport.
A striking system utilising a wide variety of attacks such as punching, kicking, elbows and knees. Kickboxing borrows a lot of techniques and training methods from western boxing as well as from Karate and Muay Thai.
In this field I teach a blend of JKD Kickboxing, Western boxing, traditional Kickboxing and Muay Thai in my sessions. In a Kickboxing session you will learn footwork, technical work such as learning the basics, hitting the pads as well as conditioning and flexibility development.
